Outreach Training Sunday Jan 8th

Hello 99%!!!!

Happy New Year!

The mainstream media is not telling the full story of Occupy Wall Street- they say we have a muddled message, they say we’ve lost steam. But the celebration at Liberty Plaza on New Year’s Eve was a festive, inspiring, energetic indication that 2012 is going to rock. . .HARD.  Our energy is up, and we’re ready to work.

Outreach is not just one of the more FUN working groups to be active with, but it’s one of the most important. It’s Outreach’s duty to show individual citizens (and non citizens) that the message of OWS is bigger than Zuccotti park, is bigger than a pitched tent. It’s about the 99% not lying down to the oppression of the 1%, and we need you to get that message out!

Our parents told us not to talk to strangers, but reaching into the unknown is the lifeblood of OWS! One super effective tool to fight media misinformation is canvassing: the act of engaging with individuals in one-to-one conversations about our issues, movement, and goals. In the past 3 months we have distributed tens of thousands of Occupied Wall Street Journals, mobilized thousands of people for actions, and door-knocked in neighborhoods all around the city.  The response from the public has been OVERWHELMINGLY and UNWAVERINGLY favorable. For every person who tells us to get a job or take a shower, 20 tell us to keep up the good work! Trust us, it’s a good feeling.

We are holding an outreach training session this Sunday January 8, 2012 @ 7pm at 165 W86 st in Manhattan- it’s the Presbyterian church that’s been housing displaced occupiers
